Products and services with the "Austrian Eco-Label", müwhich has been awarded since 1990, must meet a number of environmental criteria and have their conformity with the criteria verified by an independent expert opinion.
Only products whose environmental compatibility has been verified and which also exhibit adequate fitness for purpose and quality will be presented the awarded. In this way, the eco-label combines a high environmental standard with quality and product safety. The eco-label aims to get producers and trade to manufacture and offer products with less of an environmental footprint. In the market, the intention is to trigger a dynamic process that extends the range to include more environmentally-friendly products and services.
In tourism, the eco-label does not only indicate the eco-standard of the accommodation. Accomodation facilities with the eco-label rely on food from organic farming and animal husbandry that respects animal welfare. They preferably buy seasonal products from regional suppliers.
In schools with the eco-label, special emphasis is place not only the eco-quality of the school building but also on the quality of the learning culture, the assessment of the social climate at the school and the health programme for pupils.
